To kick off the round, a first-half goal to Jason Hoffman helped Newcastle Jets to a hard-fought 1-0 win over Brisbane Roar on Friday night.
And with over 12,000 fans in attendance at McDonald Jones stadium, the victory capped a successful week after the Jets’ second win in three days to maintain their pressure on top of the table Sydney FC.
Wellington Phoenix 1-1 Western Sydney Wanderers
Wellington Phoenix came back from a goal down at the break to draw 1-1 with Western Sydney Wanderers on Saturday at Westpac Stadium.
Wanderers dominated the first half but Phoenix stormed back into the contest after the break thanks in large part to subs Nathan Burns and Matija Ljujic, who smashed a thunderbolt to equalise for Wellington.
Melbourne Victory 3-2 Perth Glory
In Leigh Broxham’s 250th game for the club, Melbourne Victory scored late to defeat a brave Perth Glory 3-2 in a thriller at a rainy AAMI Park.
Glory showed some improvement with young player Walter Scott catching the eye at fullback, but they couldn’t hold on after Diego Castro had equalised in the final 10 minutes to make it 2-2.
But Kosta Barbarouses on 90 mins with a precious winner to break Glory hearts after a five-goal thriller in the rain.
Central Coast Mariners 2-2 Melbourne City
Despite being down to 10 men for over an hour, Melbourne City pulled out a superb display to come back and draw 2-2 with Central Coast Mariners on Sunday.
With the breeze around 42km per hour at kick off, the Mariners played with the wind at their backs in the first half.
And after City lost a player on 27 minutes, Mariners were well placed to win this contest after they held a 2-1 lead into the final minutes.
But a late goal to Marcin Budzinski earned City a fabulous point.
Adelaide United 0-0 Sydney FC
A disciplined and youthful Adelaide United pushed league leaders Sydney FC and deserved more but had to settle for a 0-0 draw on Sunday.
In front of a large, noisy crowd at Coopers Stadium the undermanned Reds were superb in the first half.
And Marco Kurz’s youthful side maintained their terrific energy levels in the second half to give the league leaders a tough night in front of almost 10,000 fans.
It was only the second time this season Sydney FC failed to score.
