Hyundai Motor Company Australia and Melbourne Heart were delighted to lend a helping hand to Aspendale Soccer Club with the donation of $3,000 at the Hyundai A-League Goals for Grassroots game on the 17th of March, 2012.

As the selected grassroots team, the club automatically received $1000 with an additional $1000 for each goal scored by the Melbourne Heart during the Hyundai A-League game.
Aspendale Soccer Club was founded six years ago and has grown to 12 teams with over 160 players. In 2011, four of the teams finished in first or second position in their respective leagues which the club says is a testament to the spirit of the young players and the work of the coaching volunteers.
“The clubs future success is clouded due to the lack of appropriate lighting for training in the winter months,” said club representative Kevin Griffiths. “We are in the process of trying to raise $20,000 to erect some basic lighting so the money from the grant will help us reach this goal.”
Goals for Grassroots was initiated by Hyundai Motor Company Australia and the Hyundai A-League to support the growth of football in Australia by nurturing the game at its grassroots level.
It has been running for five years and it offers support to local clubs across the country by providing funding in the areas they need it the most. Already over $280,000 has been donated to worthy grassroots clubs around Australia.
“Hyundai and I get enormous pleasure seeing the young wannabe football stars down at the match cheering on their local teams,” said Melbourne Heart player Aziz Behich.
“The future and the heart of the game lies here with the kids, and we are delighted to be able to play a part in encouraging and nurturing the community teams.”
Local and community based clubs can apply for selection and the chance to receive much needed additional funding by completing an on-line application submitting why their club should receive support from the Goals for Grassroots programme during Season 7 of the Hyundai A-League.
Applications can be submitted at www.goalsforgrassroots.com.au. To be eligible, clubs must belong to an association affiliated with the Football Federation Australia (FFA).
