Hyundai Ins and Outs: Round 23

A long-awaited return to fitness for Sydney FC attacker Siem De Jong, out since Round 15, has given the Sky Blues a boost ahead of Round 23 as all of the Hyundai A-League clubs look to come back with a bang following the international break.

De Jong, who suffered a knee injury after scoring the winning goal in a 1-0 victory over Wellington Phoenix in January, is joined in Sydney’s squad for the visit to Brisbane Roar by fellow attacking midfielder Daniel De Silva, who has recovered from his elbow injury.

The home side will welcome back Nick D’Agostino, fresh from the youngster’s two goals for Australia’s U-23 side in the 2-2 draw with Korea Republic in midweek that saw the young Green and Gold qualify for the 2020 AFC U-23 Championship in Thailand.

Elsewhere, Wellington Phoenix and Newcastle Jets will both have to cope without key performers in a crunch match in New Zealand’s capital.

Top scorer Roy Krishna sits out for the ‘Nix after his late red card against Western Sydney Wanderers in the last round, while Venezuelan playmaker Ronald Vargas will miss the match after aggravating his hamstring in the climactic F3 Derby defeat by Central Coast Mariners.

A firm favourite returns to the squad for Western Sydney Wanderers, a handful of young international stars will be raring to go for Melbourne Victory and Mariners welcome their skipper back to the fold.
