Today we continue our look back at the greatest games of 2017 and at number 9 comes a match an Adelaide United veteran won’t forget in a while.
We head back to round 3 of the 2017/18 Season with the Reds hosting traditional rivals Melbourne Victory in a Friday night blockbuster at Adelaide Oval.
It was a typically feisty clash between these two sides which will be best remembered for a couple of stunning strikers from Adelaide’s new recruit Vince Lia.
Not known for his goal-scoring exploits, Lia’s first was a left-foot volley which scorched into the top corner, before hitting an even sweeter strike from distance with his right after the break.
Unfortunately for Lia and the Reds, the goals only salvaged a draw as Besart Berisha and Mitch Austin got on the scoresheet for the visitors.
But it was another “Cross-border Clasico” between these two and thrilling entertainment for the almost 20,000 fans inside Adelaide Oval.
