Today we hit number 7 on our countdown with this season’s first Melbourne Derby in Round 2, as City stunned Victory in front of a packed crowd at Etihad Stadium.
It was a typically tense and physical battle in the early stages with two yellow cards handed out in the opening 11 minutes.
City midfielder Osama Malik was forced off with injury after being collected by Victory’s Rhys Williams who was lucky to escape a red card.
But it was Malik’s replacement Marcin Budzinski who produced the opener just minutes after coming on, smashing a thunderous effort from a tight angle.
Victory rebounded after the break and levelled proceedings with Leroy George squeezing a strike through the legs of Eugene Galekovic.
In a see-sawing battle, City regained the lead less than 10 minutes later with a fine solo goal from winger Bruce Kamau.
Victory pushed hard for an equaliser in the dying stages but City held on for a famous victory.
