It’s another derby that comes in at number 3 in our 10 greatest games of 2017 on a night Sydney FC fans will remember for a very long time.
Inspired by their Polish international Adrian Mierzejewski, the Sky Blues thumped a sorry Wanderers outfit 5-0 at ANZ Stadium in December.
Even without their Serbian superstar Milos Ninkovic, Graham Arnold’s men were too classy, too clinical and too confident for the home side.
It was the biggest-ever win in a Sydney Derby and – if not for Wanderers gloveman Vedran Janjetovic – it could have been a lot more.
Mierzejewski scored a brace in the first half, including a sublime free-kick, either side of Alex Brosque’s goal as it was 3-0 at the break.
An own goal by Lachlan Scott and a late curling peach from Brandon O’Neill made it a Derby Demolition by the defending champions.
