We’re up to number 2 in our greatest games of 2017 and what an occasion the Hyundai A-League 2016/17 Grand Final was between Sydney FC and Melbourne Victory.
The season’s standout team in the Sky Blues up against one of their greatest rivals in Victory and a man that lives for the decider, Besart Berisha.
So it was probably no surprise it was ‘Bes’ that opened the scoring on 20 minutes with a brilliant finish.
Sydney FC, as expected, threw everything at their opponent in the second half and the pressure finally paid off and Rhyan Grant as popped up in the box to tap in the equaliser.
The atmosphere inside Allianz Stadium, with more than 41,000 fans crammed inside, was now at fever pitch.
Suddenly, and for the first time, Victory were looking shaky as the Sky Blues sensed it was their time. But in a game of few clear chances, neither side could find a winner and the game went to extra time.
James Troisi hit the post in the closest either side came to a winner in the extra 30 minutes.
So it was on to penalties and after Danny Vukovic saved Marco Rojas shot, fittingly it was Johnny Warren Medallist Milos Ninkovic that struck home the winning spot-kick.
After confirming the Premiership with weeks left in the regular season, Graham Arnold’s Sky Blues completed the double to cement their position as one of the best Hyundai A-League side’s in history.
