Hyundai A-League young player to follow: Keanu Baccus

What a difference a week makes.

Part of the team that was beaten 5-0 in the Sydney Derby, young Western Sydney midfielder Keanu Baccus proved his resilience with a confident display in the morale-boosting 2-0 win away to Central Coast Mariners.

Josep Gombau will certainly have been satisfied with what he saw from the 19-year-old Australia youth international, who wore the armband for his club’s Foxtel National Youth League side after joining from Blacktown City.

Starting ahead of older brother Kearyn, the younger Baccus was composed on the ball in Gosford and more than able to mix it with the likes of the experienced Wout Brama.

The Durban-born, locally-refined talent even set his side’s second goal into motion with a composed piece of play in his own half as Alvaro Cejudo ultimately sealed Wanderers’ victory.

Baccus earned three Hyundai A-League appearances last term and now looks set for an extended run in the team ahead of a trip to the AFC U23 Championship in January.
