Hyundai A-League transfer news: ex-EPL stars shunned

Nicolas Anelka and Robbie Keane have been shopped around the Hyundai A-League as potential guest players but no clubs have shown any interest so far in the January transfer window.

Goal Australia website has been told the two veteran strikers have been presented as possible signings to Adelaide United, Brisbane Roar, Melbourne City, Newcastle Jets and Wellington Phoenix but their Australia-based agent has yet to receive a response.

11 transfer window targets for Hyundai A-League

Keane, 35, has played the past four years with LA Galaxy and remains contracted to the MLS club, which would presumably make his availability limited with the 2016 MLS season set to begin on March 6.

Anelka, 36, is player-coach at Mumbai City in the Indian Super League but did not make an appearance for his team in the 2015 season, which finished in December.

While Anelka’s lack of playing time may be concerning, Keane made 25 appearances for Galaxy in 2015, scoring 20 goals.

In a professional career spanning two decades, Anelka has played for Paris Saint-Germain, Real Madrid, Arsenal, Manchester City and Chelsea.

Keane also has extensive experience in the Premier League playing for the likes of Leeds United, Tottenham and Liverpool.

In the Premier League’s all-time goal-scorers list, Keane (126) and Anelka (125) sit 13th and 14th, respectively.

While A-League squads are generally limited to five foreign players, guest players do not count towards that quota.
