Hyundai A-League Team of the Week: Round 24

Guess who’s back in the Hyundai A-League Team of the Week?

KEEPER

Liam Reddy (Glory)

Pulled off a classy save in the first half and kept a clean sheet in Glory’s hugely important 1-0 win over Victory.

DEFENCE

Paulo Retre (Sydney FC)

Great game from the former Melbourne City man who provided a deft assist for Ninkovic and a deflected cross for the Simon winner. Made 92 pass attempts on the night, more than any other player on the park and his equal most ever in a single A-League game.

Michael Jakobsen (City)

Bossed the backline against Wanderers and scored his first A-League goal with a power header. The City skipper looked all class as City cemented their claims on a home elimination final.

Dino Djulbic (Glory)

Rock solid in the centre of Glory’s defence against Victory. Nothing got past the big man, especially in those desperate last 20 mins.

MIDFIELD

Daniel Adlung (Reds)

Kick-started Adelaide’s massive win with a first-half brace, as well as dominating the midfield battle with his excellent passing, movement and work-rate.

Milos Ninkovic (Sydney FC)

In a game short on highlights and creativity the Serbian stood out in Sydney’s clash against Central Coast. He headed home the opening goal and provided a constant threat as the Sky Blues’ won with a late goal.

Stefan Mauk (City)

The highly-rated Aussie youngster was a key part of City’s mobile midfield. His second half goal reward for an eye-catching display.

FORWARDS

Bruno Fornaroli (City)

He’s back!

It’s been too long but Bruno is back in the TOTW after a stellar showing in City’s 3-0 win over WSW. His first half goal was trademark Fornaroli and his assist for Mauk’s goal was sublime. Welcome back, Bruno!

Johan Absalonsen (Reds)

And Johan’s back too!

How different things could have been for Adelaide if Absalonsen hadn’t missed the majority of the season through injury. The Danish winger was devastating against the Jets, setting his side’s opener before scoring with an audacious volley at a rocking Coopers Stadium.

Nathan Burns (Phoenix)

Burnsy was back to his electrifying best on Sunday in the 2-2 thriller against Roar. Just edged Arzani for a spot in our team.

Dzengis Cavusevic (Reds)

Capped his best game for the club with a late goal – his first in the Hyundai A-League – as Adelaide United thumped the Jets on Friday night.

MANAGER OF THE ROUND Marco Kurz (Reds)

He won’t mind getting a yellow card, his men steamrolled the high-flying Jets to keep the pressure up on Victory in fourth and the chance of a home elimination final.
