The Scout had a massive Australia Day picked a squad from three teams that put in equally true blue performances. Makes ya proud!
The Scout had a massive Australia Day picked a squad from three teams that put in massive performances.
GK: Ante Covic – You wouldn-t want to point out one man as the heart of a team but Ante Covic must come pretty close to it for the Wanderers. Saving a penalty was just the icing on another excellent performance to keep Heart at bay.
LB: Adam D-Apuzzo – If this bloke is as good an accountant as he is a defender, The Scout might just pay him a visit when tax time rolls around again. Think of the savings!
CB: Patrick Zwaanswijk – Yeah, it-s an easy win putting King Zwanny in the team of the week but The Scout-s all about the easy win. Face it, the bloke-s a rock.
CB: Michael Beauchamp – A titanic performance in the middle for the Wanderers, only just pipping Nikolai Topor-Stanley. At times it looked more like the Wanderers had an extra man, not one less.
RB: Diogo Ferreira – The Victory right back might not stand out but his performance against a somewhat ragged and desperate Sydney FC side shows how far he-s come under Ange Postecoglou. Basically, he had no trouble at all.
DM: Mark Milligan – He might lack the eye-catching magic of Rojas, Flores or Thompson but Milligan might just be Victory-s most important player. He dominated Sydney FC-s big names in the middle of the park.
MF: Billy Celeski – This season-s most improved? Was it there all along, hiding behind the injuries, or is it due to a tap on the head from the wand of Ange the wizard? Either way, the simplicity of Celeski-s play was often brilliant.
MF: Youssouf Hersi – It-s no wonder the winger has become such a cult figure among Wanderers fans; the man-s a ball of energy and he plays football like he loves it, like a kid at the park.
MF: Michael McGlinchey – So long, Tom Rogic, hello Magic Mike. The wee man has slipped effortlessly into the Mariners- no.10 role and looks to be enjoying the responsibility.
S: Archie Thompson – Archie was made to play for Ange. His movement off the ball is so clever and so hard for opposition defenders to track; he feeds on the smart balls from Victory-s midfield and causes panic whenever he-s in the box.
S: Bernie Ibini – He might be on his way to Belgium but the lanky striker showed just what might have paid for his plane ticket against Adelaide. Powerful, direct, fast, smart – don-t go Bernie!
