Hyundai A-League to support ‘Kick it for Brain Cancer’ fundraiser

Football Federation Australia (FFA), the Hyundai A-League Clubs and Professional Footballers Australia (PFA) will unite this week to support the Cure Brain Cancer Foundation’s “Kick it For Brain Cancer” fundraiser during round 26 of the Hyundai A-League 2017/18 Season.

Players from each of the Hyundai A-League Clubs hosting matches this round joined with researchers and clinicians to launch this initiative in Sydney, Melbourne and Newcastle on Tuesday 3 April 2018. Aiming to raise $1 million to help beat this brutal disease, fans will be able to support the initiative at each of the five fixtures, as well as online at www.kickitforbraincancer.org.au. Supporters who attend the games can display their support by purchasing a ‘Kick It For Brain Cancer’ bandana.

It’s widely known that football is played by more Australian kids than any other sport. But a lesser known statistic is that brain cancer kills more Australian kids than any other disease, and more adults under 40 than any other cancer.

The Head of the Hyundai A-League & Westfield W-League, Greg O’Rourke, was proud that the Hyundai A-League could support this important fundraising initiative.

“When the Cure Brain Cancer Foundation approached us earlier this year, like many we were unaware of the extent that Brain Cancer affects the community and in particular our children.

“If through football we are able to raise awareness and much needed funds to address this issue, then we will have achieved a significant goal,” concluded O’Rourke.

Cure Brain Cancer Foundation CEO Michelle Stewart added, “I think it’s fitting that a sport which relies so heavily on team work is pulling together to raise funds for brain cancer. We know that finding a cure for this disease requires huge amounts of collaboration from researchers, scientists, philanthropists and this weekend, ten football teams and thousands of fans. We’re so grateful to Football Federation Australia and the Hyundai A-League for supporting this incredibly important cause.”

Sadly, the chances of surviving brain cancer are as bleak as they were 30 years ago, with a devastatingly low five-year survival rate of just 20%. But by increasing funding and research, Cure Brain Cancer Foundation aims to increase that to 50% by 2023. That’s why ‘Kick It For Brain Cancer’ is so important.

All proceeds will be donated to Cure Brain Cancer Foundation, Australia’s leading organisation for brain cancer research, advocacy and awareness.

So ‘Kick It For Brain Cancer’ in Round 26 of the Hyundai A-league, wear your colours, buy a bandana, dig deep and support the game we love. Together we can make a difference to the countless young lives lost to brain cancer each year. Together with football, we can help find a cure.
