Melbourne Victory and Sydney FC recorded their first wins of the season to get themselves off the bottom of the ladder.
Melbourne Victory v Adelaide United
It took the first three rounds and a hammering at the hands of Brisbane Roar to get there but the Victory finally got a win and they did it by playing the ball out from the back.
There were still some nervous moments for Ange Postecoglou and his team, and when they went behind thanks to a Dario Vidosic penalty, the heads went down, but they failed to give up and were rewarded with a 2-1 victory in which Marco Rojas was particularly impressive.
Newcastle Jets v Central Coast Mariners
The F3 Derby was spiteful from the get go and Jets midfielder Ruben Zadkovich was lucky not to see red for his first minute challenge, from there things got worse for the Mariners with Ben Williams awarding Emile Heskey a contentious penalty, which Ryan Griffiths converted.
Tempers threatened to boil over throughout the match and although the Jets went up 2-0 thanks to Heskey, the Mariners fought hard and were unlucky not to equalise in the dying seconds when Patrick Zwaanswijk found the net only to have his goal disallowed for offside.
Wanderers FC v Sydney FC
It was a case of that man again for Sydney FC with Alessandro Del Piero landing the blow that ultimately won an entertaining Sydney Derby.
With both sides playing some attractive football there were plenty of chances created but not any taken by the strikers until Del Piero meandered into the box, got tripped by a distraught Aaron Mooy and converted his penalty on the rebound after Ante Covic saved, sending the blue half of Sydney home happy.
Wellington Phoenix v Brisbane Roar
Wellington were determined not to become victims of a rampant Roar side and came out firing on all cylinders, creating many chances early on, especially through Paul Ifill and Leo Bertos, but it was young gun Louis Fenton who would ultimately set up Stein Huysegems to help the Phoenix take the lead in an entertaining first half.
Eventually the Roar would strike back through Besart Berisha, who caught the Phoenix defence napping before deftly lobbing his finish over Mark Paston.
The second half was much more defensive from both teams and resulted in zero goals being scored with both coaches relatively happy.
Perth Glory v Melbourne Heart
Stung by the previous week-s loss to Central Coast, the Glory came out firing on all cylinders and dominated this match from the opening whistle, continuing their reputation for physicality they made sure Fred didn-t get any room and used the wide areas of the pitch well, with Josh Risdon and Scott Jamieson delivering stand out performances.
Dean Heffernan capitalised on a major mistake from Michael Marrone for Perth-s first before Billy Mehmet finally sealed the result in the dying stages with a brilliant header.
