Central Coast Mariners 2-2 Melbourne City FC

Fabulous New Year’s Eve entertainment in Gosford for over 11,000 fans who at one point were dreaming of a famous win to end a tough year.

It took a late penalty for Melbourne City to escape with a 2-2 draw in their NYE clash with Central Coast Mariners.

A late penalty to Bruno Fornaroli spared City’s blushes on a night when Trent Buhagiar took the game by the scruff of the neck and dazzled the visitors after Tim Cahill (who else?) gave City the lead.

Wellington Phoenix 0–0 Adelaide United

In conditions more akin to mid-winter than the Summer of Footbal, Phoenix and the Reds battled the swirling wind and driving rain to come out all-square despite a late charge from the home side.

Melbourne Victory 4-2 Newcastle Jets

Brilliant entertainment in Geelong to wrap up the Summer of Football. Besart Berisha made history by overtaking Archie Thompson in the A-League all-time goal-scorers charts and with a Marco Rojas’ effort Victory took a 2-0 lead at the break. Ben Khalfallah added a third after the break before Ma LeiLei notched a classy reply.
