In a thrilling final round of the regular season, Brisbane Roar secured the last remaining Finals Series spot with a nerve-wracking 3-2 win over Perth Glory.
Roar’s performance earned them two players in the A-League’s performers of the week, with Sydney and Adelaide also having two players included.
Based on a range of metrics provided by the A-League’s official data provider, Opta, here are the standout players from the weekend’s action.
KEEPER
Paul Izzo (Adelaide) – Izzo made a joint round-high five saves to keep Adelaide in the game, while only Wellington’s Oliver Sail (41) made more passes than Izzo (32) among goalkeepers.
DEFENDERS
Jack Hingert (Brisbane) – The Brisbane defender was a key cog in the defensive wheel at the weekend, making six clearances and winning 75% of duels contested. He also attempted six dribbles.
Alex Wilkinson (Sydney) – The heart of Sydney’s defence, Wilkinson was key to his side’s clean sheet against Victory with a game-high eight clearances, 29 pass attempts and won 80% of duels contested.
Rhys Williams (Victory) – Victory’s defensive marshall was right in the thick of it, contesting a game-high 17 duels, winning possession 10 times and finished with a passing accuracy of 84% from 68 attempts.
Michael Zullo (Sydney) – Zullo set up his side’s solitary goal and created a further two scoring chances at the weekend, and did well at the other end of the pitch two winning seven out of eight duels and making four clearances.
MIDFIELDERS
Riley McGree (Jets) – McGree was the best performer in a team which scored eight goals. The youngster grabbed himself a hat-trick, set up another, and completed 57 of 68 attempted passes.
Sarpreet Singh (Phoenix) – Wellington upset the scales in their win over City on Saturday, and Singh was the key man scoring twice from each of his shots on goal. He also created two scoring chances and made four crosses.
Daniel Adlung (Adelaide) – Adlung was key to Adelaide’s win over Wanderers on Sunday, created two scoring chances and recovering possession nine times, alongside his goal.
Luke Brattan (City) – Melbourne City’s pass master was the best player in a losing side, attempting 115 passes with an accuracy of 86%.
ATTACKERS
Henrique (Roar) – The super-sub was forced on early due to an injury to Brett Holman and proved his worth with two goals from five shots, and contested four duels.
Adam Taggart (Glory) – A constant thorn in Brisbane’s side, Taggart scored once from three shots on goal, contested 11 duels and finished with a passing accuracy of 81%.
