Hyundai A-League Performers of the Week: Round 13

Who were the standout players either side of the New Year in Round 13? Thanks to Opta Data we’ve crunched the numbers to pick out the best performing players across the league.

Based on a range of metrics provided by the Hyundai A-League’s official data provider, here are the standout players from Round 13.

And it’s dominated by the red-hot Sky Blues!

GOALKEEPER

Ben Kennedy (Central Coast Mariners)

What an end to 2017 from the Mariners gloveman! Kennedy made six saves – the second-most of any keeper – and the most of any keeper to keep a clean sheet.

DEFENDERS

Scott Galloway (Wellington Phoenix)

Against his former club in Gosford, Galloway made 29 passes, four tackle attempts and finished with a duel success rate of 78%.

Alex Wilkinson (Sydney FC)

The veteran centre-back had the best passing accuracy (96%) of any player to make at least 10 passes this round (48).

Jordy Buijs (Sydney FC)

Not to be outdone, Wilkinson’s central defensive partner was also excellent, making a game-high 79 passes and a team-high four clearances. The Dutchman also created one scoring chance.

Luke Wilkshire (Sydney FC)

The Sky Blues right-back finished with a passing accuracy of 86% from 44 pass attempts. Wilkshire also created two scoring chances and had one shot on target.

MIDFIELDERS

Brandon O’Neill (Sydney FC)

O’Neill attempted six tackles, the joint-third most of any player, he won half of his 10 duels contested and made 66 passes with an accuracy of 88%. And h also got on the scoresheet in the 6-0 rout of Perth Glory.

Milos Ninkovic (Sydney FC)

The Johnny Warren medallist set up Sydney’s opener with an unselfish assist, had two shots at goal and made 53 passes with an accuracy of 83%.

Alex Brosque (Sydney FC)

Is arguably playing the best football of his career at the age of 34. The Sydney skipper scored a brilliant header in the demolition of Perth with his only attempt on goal.

Leroy George (Melbourne Victory)

The classy winger was superb in Victory’s win over Newcastle Jets. George made 25 passes, created a team-high three scoring chances, including one assist.

ATTACKERS

Bobo (Sydney FC)

The Brazilian has opened up a nice buffer at the top of the golden boot standing thanks to a second successive hat-trick in the Hyundai A-League, including a brilliant volley.

Adrian Mierzejewski (Sydney FC)

Probably the best player in the competition right now. The peerless Pole scored a goal, assisted another, made 57 passes and had a 100% shooting accuracy from his three shots.
