Round 16 of the Hyundai A-League 2014/15 is “Play Football” round which will promote junior football registration’s around Australia for the upcoming grassroots season.
Following on from the Socceroos success at the AFC Asian Cup and with the Westfield Matildas about to compete at the FIFA Women’s World Cup in June, FFA is expecting record numbers of player registrations this season.
“Our game is safe, simple and skilful for boys and girls. It’s also inclusive, accessible and multicultural – that’s why you’ll find football is a part of the daily life of more Australian households than any other mass participation sport,” said FFA CEO David Gallop.
“We have 1.96 million participants which makes football by far the most popular team sport in Australia. The Asian Cup will supercharge that participation. We are forecasting a spike in registrations and interest in junior football, thanks to the Socceroos and the Matildas.
“The Play Football round connects the elite players in the Hyundai A-League with the girls and boys, mums and dads that represent football’s greatest asset – its grassroots participants, concluded Gallop.
This season the Play Football campaign will also include videos from the game’s heroes, including Socceroos and Westfield Matildas stars, Socceroos coach Ange Postecoglou as well as short articles focussing on Hyundai A-League players and the clubs that that started playing football at as young children.
The 2015 Play Football campaign will once again include a recruitment drive for grassroots Coaches and Referees, who along with players are the game’s greatest advocates and are two key roles that have a great influence on a player’s experience.
The “Play Football” round also coincides with the launch of the AIA Vitality MiniRoos, which is a smaller version of football that provides boys and girls aged 4 – 11 with a fun introduction to the world game. AIA Vitality MiniRoos it is all about having fun, learning new skills and making life-long friends and will be delivered by grassroots clubs across Australia.
