Hyundai A-League goal of the round: Super-Sub Powell

After almost a year out through injury, banging in the winning goal in Central Coast Mariners’ victory over Perth Glory on Sunday was a just reward for Blake Powell and it’s earned him this week’s Hyundai A-League Goal of the Week for Round 9.

In a tense match at home, the Mariners came out on top against the Glory after the striker scored the winning goal just a minute after being substituted on.

The move started with man of the match Danny De Silva, wining possession deep in his own half, teeing up a one-two with Powell, racing into the box to cut back to Powell again, who smashed home off the underside of the crossbar.

The goal came in Powell’s second game back from injury and marked his first goal since December last year.

Powell’s strike was easily the fans favourite this week, tallying just over half the votes with 51%.

Brisbane Roar’s Ivan Franjic’s impressive curler tallied 36% and Wellington Phoenix’s Andrija Kaluderovic’s strike received 13% of the votes.
