The votes are in for the best goal from the opening round of the Hyundai A-League 2017/18 Season.
And the fans have selected Dimitri Petratos’ late thunderbolt in Newcastle Jets’ 5-1 drubbing of Central Coast Mariners as their pick as the Round 1’s best strike.
Petratos put the icing on a sweet cake for the Jets on Saturday when he jinked his way past Josh Rose in the box before unleashing a powerful drive into the far top corner.
The 24-year-old’s howitzer accumulated 46% of the vote to edge out teammate Roy O’Donovan’s excellent header which completed his hat-trick.
The Irishman’s goal picked up 36% of the fan vote, with Western Sydney Wanderers attacker Jumpei Kusukami’s excellent counter-attack goal third with 18%.
