Newcastle Jets recruit Pato Rodriguez made himself an instant fan favourite after scoring on debut in his side’s 2-0 win over Central Coast Mariners on Tuesday night.
The Argentine was introduced off the bench for the final 30 minutes in the F3 Derby and showed his class with some neat touches and incisive passes.
But with his side holding onto a 1-0 lead heading into stoppage time, Rodriguez produced a moment of individual brilliance.
The attacker pounced on a loose ball from Mariners midfielder Jacob Melling and surged into the area, coolly slotting past the onrushing Ben Kennedy.
His fake shot and tidy finish was all class.
And the strike has earned him the Hyundai A-League goal of the week for Round 15, edging out Melbourne City’s Ross McCormack.
The Argentine earned just over 50% of the total fan votes, narrowly ahead of McCormack’s sublime free kick against Glory (37%).
