Hyundai A-League goal of the Round: Deng’s howitzer

Melbourne Victory defender Thomas Deng has been voted by the fans as scoring the best goal from Round 25 of the Hyundai A-League.

The 21-year-old took the honours thanks to his memorable volley in Victory’s entertaining 3-1 win over Western Sydney Wanderers on Saturday night.

With the match on a knife’s edge with his side leading 2-1 in the second half, Deng produced his unlikely moment of magic to light-up AAMI Park.

After great work down the left by Leroy George and Terry Antonis, the latter did superbly to float a cross to the far post.

And that’s where the Nairobi-born Deng was, timing his run to perfection before blasting a first-time volley low and hard across Vedran Janjetovic into the bottom corner of the net.

Deng celebrated wildly and his beaming smile summed up what a truly exceptional strike it was.

The goal was a standout winner, earning 59.2% of the fan vote to easily claim the Round 25 prize.

Adam Taggart’s cracking curler against Sydney FC on Thursday night was next best, securing 27.9% of the vote, with Dario Vidosic’s free-kick against the Jets third with 12.9%.
