Adelaide United
The Reds are back from a successful two-game pre-season tour of Malaysia.
Gui Amor’s troops started off with a 3-0 win over Kuala Lumpur FA thanks to goals from Riley McGree, Marc Marino and Ryan Kitto, before a 2-1 triumph over Penang FA on the weekend.
Marino capped a promising tour with the opening goal before new signing Henrique scored the 82nd-minute winner from the penalty spot.
The defending Hyundai A-League champions next take on Melbourne Victory in a behind-closed-doors friendly at Coopers Stadium on Wednesday, September 14. The club will allow 10 lucky members the chance to attend the match.
Brisbane Roar
Roar’s last outing in pre-season was their emphatic 4-0 win over a Brisbane Premier League Select side.
First-half goals from Dimitri Petratos and Jamie Maclaren put them in control before late strikes from Daniel Bowles and Daniel Leck rounded out the big win.
John Aloisi’s next hit-out will be against the Central Coast Mariners in Brisbane on Saturday, September 10, with new recruit Brett Holman a chance to make his first outing for Roar.
Central Coast Mariners
New coach Paul Okon settled into his role on Tuesday night as the Mariners played two matches in the nation’s capital.
Using two squads, the Mariners first drew 2-2 against a Capital Football Select North squad with Ro O’Donovan and Kwabena Appiah scoring the goals.
Then against a Capital Football Select South side, young striker Josh Bingham scored four goals in 25 minutes after the break as the Mariners won 4-0.
And Okon is going to be getting plenty of games into his side ahead of round one of the Hyundai A-League, with the Mariners heading to Brisbane to play Roar this Saturday.
They then follow it up a week later by taking on Wellington Phoenix at Knox Grammar on September 17, with kick-off at 3pm and then heading to Nelson in New Zealand a week later for another clash with the Nix.
Melbourne City
After disposing of Brisbane Strikers in the Westfield FFA Cup last month, John van ‘t Schip’s troops are ramping up preparations for the new season with a week-long tour of Townsville this week.
City was in action last night (Wed) against local outfit Northern Fury, running out comfortable 4-1 winners with goals from Bruce Kamau, Luke Brattan, Braedyn Crowley and Yusuf Ahmed.
It’s the first of two games for the club in North Queensland, with another match against Wellington Phoenix on Sunday, September 11 at the Townsville Sports Reserve.
The club is also scheduled to take on Newcastle Jets in Ballarat on Sunday, September 18 before their Westfield FFA Cup tie in Melbourne against Western Sydney Wanderers three days later.
Melbourne Victory
Victory maintained their unbeaten pre-season on Wednesday with a 3-1 win over Sydney FC in a behind-closed-doors friendly at AAMI Park.
Kiwi international Marco Rojas scored and looked sensational in his first game back for the club, with Besart Berisha (pen) and Mitch Austin scoring the other goals.
Kevin Muscat’s side will next do battle with Adelaide United next Wednesday at Coopers Stadium before their Westfield FFA Cup quarter-final against Bentleigh Greens on Tuesday, September 27.
Newcastle Jets
The Jets have just returned from a successful tour of China, where the club won all three of their friendly matches.
After wins against Liaoning Whowin FC and Eastern SC, the finished the tour with a 4-3 victory over Kitchee SC, with goals to Andrew Hoole, Morten Nordstrand, Andrew Nabbout and Jason Hoffman.
It wasn’t enough to save coach Scott Miller’s job, with the club deciding to part ways with the boss after just one year at the helm.
But their pre-season goes on with at least three more friendlies lined-up in quick succession ahead of the new Hyundai A-League campaign.
On Sunday, September 11 they face NNSW NPL champions Edgeworth Eagles at Jack McLaughlan Oval, with kick-off at 3pm.
The Jets then head to Ballarat a week later for their match against Melbourne City while Cessnock is the destination on Saturday, September 24 as they do battle with Western Sydney Wanderers.
Perth Glory
Kenny Lowe’s side played a couple of big games last month, including a 2-2 draw with Iraq in a behind-closed-doors friendly at Dalmatinac Park.
They also saw their Westfield FFA Cup campaign come to an end at the hands of Sydney FC in a 2-0 defeat at Dorrien Gardens.
As yet, Glory have no more pre-season friendlies lined up although the club is hoping to lock in a few more in coming weeks ahead of their round one clash against the Mariners.
Sydney FC
After advancing to the last eight of the Westfield FFA Cup with a 2-0 win over Perth Glory in the west last month, the Sky Blues went down in their most recent clash against Victory on Wednesday.
New marquee signing Bobo started up front for Sydney FC, who lost 3-1 at AAMI Park, with midfielder Brandon O’Neill scoring their only goal of the game.
At this stage the club have no more matches scheduled ahead of their Westfield FFA Cup quarter-final against Blacktown City on Wednesday, September 21.
Wellington Phoenix
Ernie Merrick’s new signings look to be settling in nicely in Wellington, with the Phoenix continuing to look good in the pre-season.
They were too strong for a Capital Select XI over the weekend as goals to Kosta Barbarouses, Michael McGlinchey and Alex Rodriguez rounded out a 3-0 win.
The Phoenix bring their pre-season to Australia over the next couple of weeks with matches against both Melbourne City and Central Coast Mariners scheduled.
In Townsville they’ll take on City this Sunday (September 11), before heading south to Sydney for a clash with the Mariners at Knox Grammar.
Then it’s back to New Zealand for another match against the Mariners at Trafalgar Park in Nelson.
Western Sydney Wanderers
Following their big Westfield FFA Cup win over Edgeworth Eagles last month, Tony Popovic has this week taken his side on a pre-season tour to Japan.
While no details of any matches have been finalised yet, the squad will spend nine days their preparing for their FFA Cup quarter-final against Melbourne City on Wednesday, September 21.
Following that tie, the Wanderers then head to Cessnock in the Hunter for another pre-season clash against fellow Hyundai A-League side Newcastle Jets.
