Hyundai A-League FIFA 18 ratings special: top 5 goalkeepers

The Hyundai A-League has always been blessed with top goalkeeping talent – from a young Maty Ryan being rated 71 in FIFA 13, to an 80 rated Team of the Season Eugene Galekovic in FIFA 15.

FIFA 18 will be released worldwide on Friday 29 September, while those who pre-order the Ronaldo or Icon editions through easports.com/FIFA18 can receive 3 Days Early Access.

Just who’s impressed the FIFA scouts at the start of the season?

5. Michael Theo – Brisbane Roar – 65

A fixture in the Brisbane Roar squad, with 24 appearances last season, Theo is up one point overall from his rating in FIFA 17.

4. Alex Cisak – Sydney FC – 65

A newcomer to the Hyundai A-League, Cisak steps into Danny Vukovic’s spot at Sydney FC.

However, he’s got big shoes to fill, with his 65 rating not quite up there with Vukovic’s 66 starter rating last season, or his 74 Team of the Season card.

Down one point from his 66 last season at Leyton Orient – can he get it back?

3. Vedran Janjetovic – Western Sydney Wanderers – 66

66 last season, 66 this season. Completely unchanged from last year, despite changing sides of Sydney.

Despite having a solid back half of the season, the scouts at EA saw no reason to push his ratings up or down.

2. Lawrence Thomas – Melbourne Victory – 66

The first of our keepers to make a big jump in the ratings this season, moving up not only two points, but also jumping from Bronze Card to Silver Card.

It’s bad news for anyone looking to make an all-Bronze Hyundai A-League Ultimate Team, but with 28 games under his belt last season, and at 25-years-old, there’s a lot of room for Thomas to move.

1. Eugene Galekovic – Melbourne City – 68

Still the top-rated Hyundai A-League goalkeeper, but Eugene Galekovic is finally starting to lose his standing with the folks at EA Sports.

Down three points from last season’s 71, Eugene finds himself at 68 this season. It’s still up from his FIFA 15 rating of 67, but down from both FIFA 16 and FIFA 17.

He’s got a battle on his hands with Dean Bouzanis for the Number 1 spot, but if he manages to impress yet again this year, a Team of the Season card or a Team of the Week won’t be far off.

As he showed in FIFA 16, it is possible to jump from 67 at the start of the season to an 80 at the end.
