Central Coast Mariners may have struggled for much of the Hyundai A-League 2015/16 Season but they pulled off a major coup signing ex-Liverpool and Spain international Luis Garcia.
The 37-year-old had impressed in a clash for the Liverpool Legends in Australia and was given a short-term deal by the Gosford club.
And his debut against Western Sydney Wanderers in Round 16 of the season threw up a dramatic encounter.
Garcia started on the bench and watched as the Wanderers were gifted an early lead, with Mark Bridge capitalising on a poor pass by Storm Roux to find the net.
The 2005 Champions League winner with Liverpool was called into the fray on the hour mark and made an immediate impact.
Garcia’s sublime pass split the Wanderers defence and released Mitch Austin down the left, with the winger crossing for Josh Bingham.
While the youngster’s scuffed effort was saved, Fabio Ferreira was on hand to equalise for the home side.
But the match swung on a red card to Mariners skipper Nick Montgomery soon after, with the Wanderers finding a winner with just two minutes left through super-sub Brendon Santalab.
