Hyundai A-League classic clashes: five-goal thriller at AAMI Park

Ahead of Saturday night’s blockbuster clash between Melbourne Victory and Brisbane Roar – live and free on ONE – we look back at a classic clash between the two sides from last season.

In one of the matches of the campaign, all the goals were scored in a frantic first-half, including a couple of contenders for goal of the season.

After just twelve minutes red-hot Victory attacker James Troisi scored his third goal in as many games, bending home a sublime free-kick to give his side the lead.

Five minutes later, the lead was doubled with Troisi again heavily involved; after evading two defenders wide on the left, the Caltex Socceroo played a delightful ball into the path of Marco Rojas who rounded Mike Theo and guided the ball into an empty net for 2-0.

It was to get even worse for Brisbane when Luke De Vere brought down Besart Berisha inside the penalty area, with the master marksman dusting himself off to convert the resulting spot-kick to make it 3-0 inside 27 minutes.

But Roar coming roaring back.

Dimi Petratos blasted one of the goals of the season into the top right-hand corner from a pile-driving direct free-kick after 30 minutes.

The deficit was further reduced just before half-time when Victory defender James Donachie turned the ball into his own net.

While there were no further goals after the break, the drama didn’t end with Berisha seeing red for an off-the-ball incident.

But Victory held on to win 3-2 in a classic Hyundai A-League clash.
