Hyundai A-League 250-club to be recognised

Football Federation Australia will celebrate the achievements of six players who have reached a significant appearance milestone in the first thirteen years of the Hyundai A-League.

These six players will receive recognition for playing 250 Hyundai A-League matches at Monday night’s Dolan Warren Awards in Sydney.

Each player will be presented with a ‘cap’ to commemorate the milestone.

Andrew Durante

Total games: 287

Game 250: Wellington Phoenix v Newcastle Jets, Westpac Stadium, 5 November 2016

After two seasons with Newcastle, culminating with winning the Joe Marston Medal in the Hyundai A-League 2007/08 Grand Final, Durante crossed the Tasman to become Wellington skipper.

He brought up a decade of service to the Phoenix in 2017/18 and is set to sign a one-year extension in the coming weeks which will give him the chance to potentially reach the 300-game milestone next season.

Danny Vukovic

Total games: 278

Game 250: Brisbane Roar FC v Melbourne Victory, Suncorp Stadium, 12 March 2016

vuka

The recent Caltex Socceroos debutant represented five different clubs across the first dozen seasons of the Hyundai A-League before his move to Belgium last year.

After playing for five years with Central Coast, the popular stopper went on to play for Wellington, Perth, Victory and Sydney FC, capping his domestic career with a Hyundai A-League Grand Final winners’ medal in 2016/17.

Nikolai Topor-Stanley

Total games: 263

Game 250: Sydney FC v Newcastle Jets, Allianz Stadium, 3 January 2018

Currently in his second stint with Newcastle, the imposing central defender debuted for Sydney FC in the Hyundai A-League 2006/07 season before two seasons with Glory and three with the Jets.

Topor-Stanley won the Hyundai A-League 2012/13 Premiership with Western Sydney and after four seasons with the Wanderers he returned to Newcastle, playing a massive part in their return to finals football this season.

Leigh Broxham

Total games: 262

Game 250: Melbourne Victory v Perth Glory, AAMI Park, 13 January 2018

brox

Victory’s Mr Versatile is the only player to appear 250 times for the same Hyundai A-League club, debuting off the bench in January 2007 and still playing a key role in his twelfth season.

Broxham has spent time in a variety of positions and has collected three Premierships and three Championships, as well as two runners-up medals in a storied career.

Eugene Galekovic

Total games: 261

Game 250: Central Coast Mariners v Adelaide United, Central Coast Stadium, 25 March 2017

galek

After three seasons with limited opportunities at Victory, the former international was the undisputed number one at Adelaide United for nine years, winning the Hyundai A-League Championship in 2015/16.

A move to Melbourne City before the current season has seen Galekovic fall behind Dean Bouzanis in the pecking order, but he remains one of the competition’s longest serving and most reliable goalkeepers.

Liam Reddy

Total games: 250

Game 250: Perth Glory v Brisbane Roar FC, NIB Stadium, 14 April 2018

reddy

The most recent addition to the 250-club, the well-travelled goalkeeper chalked up the milestone in the final game of the Hyundai A-League 2017/18 season.

Reddy was in goal for Newcastle in their very first Hyundai A-League game in August 2005 and has gone on to play for Brisbane, Wellington, Sydney FC, Central Coast, Western Sydney and Perth Glory in the twelve seasons since.
