Hyundai A-League 1 million fan record tumbles

A new Hyundai A-League crowd record was set after last weekend’s three matches with the 1 million mark being reached quicker (71 matches) than any of the league’s previous nine seasons.

The return of the Hyundai A-League after the AFC Asian Cup 2015 break saw fantastic crowds in Adelaide, Gosford and Perth, which took the total aggregate crowd for the season reach 1,007,777.

With 972,444 people attending matches this season prior to last weekend’s three matches, the 1 million mark was reached at nib Stadium in Perth, surpassing the previous record by one match.

A crowd of 10,960 at Coopers Stadium watched Adelaide United’s 7-0 rout of Newcastle, while Central Coast Mariners and Perth Glory both recorded their highest home crowds of the season in their matches against Sydney FC and Melbourne Victory respectively.

The Round 15 split round concludes this weekend with Melbourne City FC hosting Western Sydney Wanderers on 1 February and Wellington Phoenix heading to Suncorp Stadium to tackle Brisbane Roar on 2 February.
