How your team can qualify for Westfield W-League 2021 Finals Series

We take you through all the possible scenarios to see if your Westfield W-League side could qualify for the 2021 finals series as we approach crunch time.

The COVID-19 pandemic coupled with the crazy weather across New South Wales over the weekend has only added to the suspense as we fast approach the end of the Westfield W-League regular season.

There will be a four-way tussle between Brisbane Roar, Adelaide United, Canberra United and Melbourne Victory as they vie for the three finals spots still on offer.

Second placed Roar could catch leaders Sydney FC but at the same time there is still the chance they could drop out of finals contention if results do not swing in their favour.

To ensure that they control their fate they must overcome Newcastle Jets in their final match which will almost likely guarantee them a top-two finish.

Meanwhile, for long-time leaders, Sydney, the equation is simple. Claim all three points against Canberra on Friday and they will lift the Westfield W-League Premiers Plate.

Adelaide United

There will be one team come Friday who will be in the Sky Blues corner, that side will be Adelaide because if Sydney gets the job done then it will secure their passage into their first Westfield W-League Finals Series.

For Canberra to qualify for the finals series they will need to come away with either a win or draw against Sydney.

However, the team to watch out for will be Victory who sit on the edge of the top four with not one but two games in hand.

Jeff Hopkins’ side are still in with a mathematical chance of claiming the premiership if they beat Sydney in the rescheduled Big Blue, beat Glory and hope that Sydney lose to Canberra.

The above may seem unlikely but nevertheless possible.

All these scenarios just add to the excitement as we buckle up for a wild end to what has been a thrilling Westfield W-League season.
