Western Sydney Wanderers v Sydney FC
Thursday, 7.30pm (AEDT)

Round One. Derby One.

The first instalment of the Westfield W-League’s Thursday Night Football kicks off with a bang.

Western Sydney Wanderers host their cross-town rivals and will be hoping to improve on last year’s eighth-place finish. Talk is cheap, though, so the Wanderers have made some serious changes for Season 2018/19.

On the field, the west have pillaged their cross-city rivals, signing a lethal triumvirate in Leena Khamis, Kylie Ledbrook and Georgia Yeoman-Dale. Remy Siemsen will also don the Red and Black in a major coup for Western Sydney.

Sydney FC, meanwhile, began the 2017/18 Season with three consecutive losses before going on a 10-match unbeaten streak. Unfortunately, that streak ended on the big stage as the Sky Blues succumbed to a 2-0 masterclass by Melbourne City in the Grand Final.

History is on Sydney FC’s side, as they have won five of the last six games against Western Sydney. A new season brings new stories, though, so Marconi Stadium is set to host a cracker on Thursday night.

How to watch: Tune in to FOX SPORTS 505 to catch the Westfield W-League 2018/19 Season curtain-raiser, with kick-off at 7:30pm (AEDT). You can also stream the match live on the MyFootball Live App, Live Fast and Data Free for Telstra mobile customers.

Brisbane Roar v Perth Glory
Sunday, 2.30pm (AEDT)

Brisbane will be roaring to go following their near-perfect 2017/18 Season. The Roar, once more led by Mel Andreatta, came bitterly close to their sixth Grand Final before falling to eventual champions Melbourne City.

Fan-favourite, Katrina Gorry, makes her long-awaited return to Suncorp Stadium, while World Cup winner Yuki Nagasato will also don the famous orange.

Sam Kerr

Perth Glory will be up for the challenge, though, having made some stoic signings themselves. Sam Kerr, recently nominated for the inaugural women’s Ballon d’Or, took home the NSWL’s Golden Boot for a second consecutive season, and will feature as Westfield W-League’s first-ever marquee.

How to watch: You can catch this game LIVE on FOX SPORTS 505 at 2:30pm, as well as on SBS VICELAND. You can also stream the match live on the MyFootball Live App, Live Fast and Data Free for Telstra mobile customers.

Canberra United v Melbourne City
Sunday, 4.00pm (AEDT)

Canberra United will want to improve on last season’s performance and return to finals football. Heather Garriock’s side found form midway through the 2017/18 Season, before falling short of the top four.

Live pass

Melbourne City, meanwhile, will be chasing history. Having already become the first ever Australian football team to win three Grand Finals in a row, the Citizens can reach for the stars and set new heights.

Round 1 provides a clean slate for every team, so McKellar Park looks to be hosting a mouth-watering clash on Sunday, October 28.

Melbourne Victory v Adelaide United
Sunday, 4.15pm (AEDT)

It’s one of the oldest derbies in Australian football. Blue versus Red. Victory versus United.

This year’s first meeting will have some added spice, as both teams will want to start their seasons on the front foot and reach finals football after last year’s absence.

For the Reds, there is only one way: up. Fans will be excited by the acquisition of Michelle Heyman who will no doubt provide goals and pizzazz up front.
