How to watch: Matildas begin Tokyo 2020 campaign with New Zealand clash

Westfield W-League stars of past and present join forces at Tokyo 2020, with Australia’s first Women’s Olympic Football Tournament fixture coming against New Zealand at Tokyo Stadium on Wednesday, July 21.

Australia’s head coach Tony Gustavsson takes the national women’s team into battle in Group G, consisting of New Zealand, Sweden and USA.

It’s a challenging group for the 22-player squad looking to better Australia’s Quarter Final finish at the Women’s Football Tournament at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games. The squad gunning for medals in Tokyo includes seven players who represented Westfield W-League clubs in the 2020/21 campaign (Kyra Cooney-Cross, Emily Gielnik, Clare Polkinghorne, Tameka Yallop, Teagan Micah, Charlotte Grant and Courtney Nevin).

After facing New Zealand on Wednesday night, Australia will then meet Sweden on Saturday, July 24 before a clash with world number one United States on July 27.
