Homegrown midfielder returns to Sydney FC on multi-year deal

Sydney FC have bolstered their midfield pack ahead of the 2026-27 Isuzu UTE A-League campaign with the signing of former midfielder Jake Hollman on a three-year deal.

The 24-year-old returns to Sydney after spending last season in England with EFL League Two side Walsall FC and becomes the first permanent signing under new Head Coach Patrick Kisnorbo.

Hollman struggled for minutes during his time in the UK but returns to Australia looking to recapture the excellent form that initially saw him earn a move to the Saddlers.

After coming through the Sydney FC academy Hollman was then snapped up by fellow Isuzu UTE A-League side Macarthur Bulls.

The 24-year-old would go on to make more than 100 appearances for the Bulls, registering 16 goals and nine assists as he helped Macarthur win two Australia Cup crowns.

Now back where it all began, Hollman admits the opportunity to return to his boyhood club is one he couldn’t turn down.

“Coming back to Sydney FC feels like coming home,” said Hollman, after news of the move was made official.

“This is the club where I developed as a player and as a person. I have so many great memories from my Academy years and winning the National Youth League Grand Final with a fantastic group of players.

He continued: “I’ve learned a lot over the past few years, both in the A-League and during my time in England, and I feel I’m returning a better player with a lot more experience.

“When I spoke with Patrick and Alex (Baumjohann) about the vision for the future, it was something I really wanted to be part of.

“Sydney FC has always been a club that expects success and that’s exactly the environment I want to be in. I can’t wait to pull on the Sky Blue jersey again and get started.”

Sydney FC Head Coach Patrick Kisnorbo said Hollman’s return was an exciting addition for the club.

“Jake is a player we know very well and someone who understands exactly what it means to represent Sydney FC.

“He has come through our Academy, experienced success in the A-League, tested himself overseas and is now returning as a more mature and complete footballer.

“He’s got excellent energy, quality on the ball and a tremendous work ethic.

“At 24, he is entering some of the best years of his career and we’re delighted to bring him home.”

Hollman will join the Sky Blues when at Sky Park in late June as the squad begins preparations for the 2026-27 campaign, including the Sydney Super Cup clash with Tottenham Hotspur and the Australia Cup 2026 campaign.
