Heyman signs on: Julie Dolan Medalist to build on Canberra comeback

CANBERRA United star and W-League legend Michelle Heyman will look to extend her lead as the league’s all-time top goalscorer in 2021/22, signing on for another season at Canberra United.

Heyman announced her retirement at the end of the 2018/19 W-League campaign, but a year out of the game proved all the Matildas gun needed to revitalise her playing career. Returning to Canberra in 2020/21, Heyman scored a hat-trick in her homecoming performance to ignite a blistering season which she concluded with the Julie Dolan Medal draped around her neck.

Heyman scored 10 goals in 2020/21, reclaiming the honour of the league’s top goalscorer off Sam Kerr by taking her total tally to 73, made her 100th appearance for Canberra whilst helping the club end its three-season Finals Series drought.

Ahead of her 10th season as a Canberra United player, Heyman says motivation to push for another appearance in the post-season is on top of the agenda after missing the 2020/21 Finals Series through injury.

“I am so excited to announce that I am back in green for the 2021/22 W-League season,” Heyman said.

“I absolutely loved everything about last season and can’t wait to be back training and playing with the girls.

“I’m just so happy and grateful for another opportunity to represent Canberra, play in front of our amazing fans and push for another finals appearance.”
