Heskey’s advice: try the Hyundai A-League

Former Newcastle Jets marquee Emile Heskey says he would encourage any player to try the Hyundai A-League and was left impressed by the standard of the competition.

Heskey played for two seasons at the Jets, from 2012 to 2014, scoring 10 goals in 42 appearances for the Hunter club.

While the ex-Liverpool and Aston Villa striker admits he struggled with the heat of an Australian summer, he was glowing in his appraisal of the Hyundai A-League.

In the season’s first episode of AskFans on YouTube, Heskey says he would “100%” encourage more players to come and play in Australia.

“I’ve been asked a couple of times by players and I’ve got nothing but good things to stay about it,” he said.

“The standard was really high as well. The hurdle you would have to get over is the weather and getting used to that weather.

“I was used to waking up in 30 degrees every morning. But whenever anyone ever asks me I always have good things to say about it.”

Heskey retired in 2016 after playing two seasons with Bolton Wanderers in League One.
