Herbert calls time on Phoenix role

Ricki Herbert has tendered his resignation at Wellington Phoenix and will be replaced in the interim by Chris Greenacre.

Long-time Wellington Phoenix manager Ricki Herbert has tendered his resignation to the club and will step down immediately, to be replaced by current assistant coach Chris Greenacre.

Herbert, who has led the club since their inception into the Hyundai A-League is understood to have stepped down because of the club-s lowly position and the busy international schedule he faces as coach of New Zealand-s national team, the All Whites.

In his time as manager the club had primarily achieved a great amount of success on the field, but their 2012/13 season has seen them anchored to the bottom of the table.

Herbert becomes the fifth coaching casualty this season following Ian Crook (Sydney FC), John Kosmina (Adelaide United), Rado Vidosic (Brisbane Roar) and Ian Ferguson (Perth Glory).
