Melbourne Heart have confirmed that they will be taking their round 18 clash against Perth Glory to Albury.

The match will be held on Sunday 9 February 2014 as a part of the Hyundai A-League 2013-14 season, and will form part of Football Federation Australia-s pledge to connect the Hyundai A-League with regional Australia.

The match will provide Albury-s football community with the chance to witness two sides battle for Hyundai A-League competition points.

Melbourne Heart FC CEO Scott Munn said the match demonstrated Melbourne Heart FC-s continued engagement with the Albury region.

“In 2011 we came to Albury for a Westpac regional festival and we built wonderful relationships with the City Council and the football community,” Munn said.

“We-ve continued to work with the City Council and that has now resulted in the Club going to play an official Hyundai A-League match for points.

“The Club is excited about the match and engaging with the Albury community, which has rich football traditions.”

Mayor of Albury City Cr Alice Glachan welcomed the announcement as one of the city-s biggest sporting coups.

“We-re absolutely delighted to welcome Melbourne Heart FC to Albury,” Mayor Glachan said.

“The club and their representatives have been fantastic to work with and we-re ready to roll out the red carpet for Melbourne Heart.”

“We-ve been working closely with representatives of Melbourne Heart towards securing a Hyundai A-League match for some time.

“This announcement is great news for regional fans and our whole football fraternity.

“For many years Albury has hosted trial games and warm up matches across all codes and we are often told that we are one of the best regional hosts in the country, both in delivery of events and our warm welcoming community spirit.

“All of our work has led to this point – an opportunity to host a match as part of the premiership season.

“We-re excited to be working with Melbourne Heart who have recognised that Albury will host a fantastic event.

“We thank Melbourne Heart and their representatives for such a strong commitment to their regional fans and we hope it leads to a fruitful and long term partnership.”

The match will take place at Lavington Sports Ground, Albury, and kick off at 3pm.
