Melbourne City’s two-goal hero Bruce Kamau said the hard work in the off-season at the club paid off after their 2-0 win over Brisbane Roar on Friday night opened the new Hyundai A-League season.
City defeated the Queenslanders with a brace from winger Kamau capping a super start to the new season for the Cityzens.
Kamau may not have had the greatest of games overall but when it mattered most, the striker hit the net twice for Warren Joyce’s men to earn them a deserved first three points of the season.
“I’m very happy, good start to the season and hopefully I can continue the good form,” Kamau told Fox Sports.
“After training me and a few of the other boys we practice our finishing and it’s something I wanted to add to my game so it’s good to have it pay off.”
Kamau added his new coach, a former Manchester United assistant to Sir Alex Ferguson, pushed the side’s physical limits in the off-season and added a stronger team ethos.
Clearly the work is beginning to pay off.
“He’s brought his own way of doing things. He’s worked us hard in pre-season and brought the boys together and that’s something you see on the pitch with everyone working for each other,” said Kamau.
But for City, the big test is next week when they face their bitter rivals Victory in the Melbourne Derby.
