An intriguing contest awaits Fox Sports and ABC TV viewers on Sunday as the unheralded but highly competitive Western Sydney Wanderers host reigning champions Canberra United.
Gosford’s impressive Central Coast Stadium will be location as the Wanderers, who will be the home team, seek a first-ever win over the team from the nation’s capital.
The Wanderers might be short on headline-names but in typical club fashion they are big on heart and resilience. And results have duly followed.
So much so, that they are currently sharing third alongside United, just one point off second-placed Adelaide United. Thus a chance to move into second will go on the line and with it, an opportunity to take a giant stride towards a finals berth.
Participation in the finals is the minimum expectation for Canberra. For the Wanderers, however, it would mean milestone success having never before featured in the top-four.
The Wanderers had the bye last week, while Canberra edged an eleventh-hour 1-0 win over Sydney FC. This week United will be without their Westfield Matildas stars Michelle Heyman and Lydia Williams with the national team playing an international in Korea Republic.
Watch all the action Live from 2.00pm nationally on Fox Sports (Channel 505), or ABC TV. Or catch-up on ABC iView.
