Happy to be home says Brosque

He may only be one training session into his latest stint at Sydney FC but Alex Brosque has his eyes set firmly on helping the Sky Blues back to the top of the table.

He may only be one training session into his latest stint at Sydney FC as Australian Marquee but already Alex Brosque has his eyes set firmly on helping the Sky Blues back to the top of the table.

Brosque said he always knew he-d return to the Sky Blues and believes now is the right time to be back as the squad begins to take shape under new Head Coach Graham Arnold ahead of a host of upcoming preseason matches.

“It-s been a couple of years but it still feels like home,” Brosque said.

“Coming back to Macquarie and seeing all the boys again it-s very special for me and I-m happy to be home.

“Ever since I left it was a matter of timing of when exactly it was the right time to come back and there was never a doubt in my mind that if there was the option to come back to Sydney then I-d do exactly that.

“I-ve been watching every year since I left and hopefully this year it-s a bit of a new era for the club with a new coach and new signings and hopefully we can really kick on this season and go back to where the club should be and that-s at the top of the table.”

Coming back into a new squad under a new coach means Brosque will have to adapt, however after being deployed in various roles during his time overseas, the Sydney born striker said he is happy to play wherever Arnold best sees fit and is hopeful of developing a prime on-field relationship with the new look front three including himself, Bernie Ibini and Shane Smeltz.

“It is all about the squad that-s something Arnie has been trying to drill into the boys,” said Brosque.

“Wherever that means I fit in with the team that will be fine for me, it-s about the three of us adapting to each other-s games and the style Arnie wants us to play.

“Bernie is a great player, he-s a very good dribbler and finisher and Smeltz is a very good goal scorer and wherever that puts me in Arnie-s plans on the pitch, if I can sort of help complement these guys, and the team around us, hopefully that means we-ll have a good season.”
