Signing news: Halloran extends Adelaide contract

Adelaide’s star attacker Ben Halloran is staying put in the City of Churches after inking a deal for two more years with the Reds.

The 27-year-old has delivered a stellar season to date, scoring seven goals in 16 Hyundai A-League appearances as Gertjan Verbeek’s fifth-placed side have mounted a strong challenge for Finals Series football.

Earlier in 2020, Halloran was the subject of speculation linking him with a move to home-state club Brisbane Roar, where he played in 2012/13, which prompted a war of words between Verbeek and Roar coach Robbie Fowler.

But the Reds have got their man locked in to the end of the 2021/22 season, and Halloran is delighted to have his future secured.

“I’m very happy to know my future is here in Adelaide,” Halloran said.

“Since joining the Reds two years ago, my partner Helen and I fell in love with Adelaide.

“We feel at home here which is something very important to us.”

He added: “I’m excited for the future and couldn’t be happier that it’ll be in red.”

After leaving Queensland for Europe in 2013, Halloran spent five years in Germany – for Fortuna Dusseldorf and Heidenheim – and played a campaign in Japan with V-Varen Nagasaki.

The Cairns-native returned down under in 2018 with the Reds, and helped them lift back-to-back FFA Cups in his two years in South Australia.

“Ben is a very important player and is having a great season,” Adelaide’s Director of Football Bruce Djite said.

“We believe Ben has even more to offer, and, considering his prime years are approaching, to have re-signed him for another two seasons is a huge triumph for the Club,” he added.
