Brisbane Roar midfielder Ben Halloran is on his way to Europe after the club agreed to his transfer to an unnamed German Bundesliga 2 club, rumoured to be Fortuna Dusseldorf.
The 20-year-old signed with Brisbane 12 months ago after beginning his career with Gold Coast United in the Hyundai A-League 2011/12 season, and looks set to follow in the footsteps of fellow Queensland product Robbie Kruse, soon to leave Dusseldorf for Bayer Leverkusen.
Roar managing directorSean Dobson said the club were willing to let Halloran go once a good opportunity became available.
“We never want to stand in the way of a player pursuing their dreams overseas,” Dobson said.
“As a club, we-ve got a great tradition of footballers forging successful careers overseas.
“We-ve enjoyed having Ben here and we hope he goes on to do great things in Germany.”
Halloran made 28 appearances for the Roar, scoring four goals, before earning himself a new contract with the German club this month.
