North Queensland Fury midfielder Chris Grossman has tasted the back of the net and now he wants more.
The 22-year-old was the hero in Wellington last weekend when he scored in the dying seconds to snatch a 1-1 draw.
It was the youngster’s first ever Hyundai A-league goal but he hopes there’s plenty more to come.
“I definitely want as many goals as I can get,” Grossman admitted.
“But you’ve just got to be in the right position at the right time. If we can take a bit of the workload off Robbie (Fowler) and Macca (Daniel McBreen) and get a few goals from the midfield contingent then it’s really going to help us.”
Grossman has been in and out of the Fury side so far this season playing in three of the club’s seven outings.
But the Brisbane-born midfielder is hoping to nail down a permanent place in the squad.
“I think I’m in with a shot,” he said.
“Whether I deserve a shot is up to the Gaffer (Coach Ian Ferguson).”
“We’ve got a good quality squad and we’ve got a lot of players pushing for spots, so whether I’m in the mix is totally up to the Gaffer.”
Despite last week’s heroics he’s still unsure whether he’ll get a start in the Fury’s Round 8 encounter with Adelaide United at Dairy Farmers Stadium.
“He hasn’t really said too much to me,” Grossman said of Ferguson.
“He congratulated me on my goal and was quite happy for me but I haven’t really spoken to him so far this week so we’ll just have to wait and see.”
North Queensland is still feeling hard done by after suffering a disappointing draw against Adelaide at Hindmarsh Stadium in Round 4.
The Fury were up 3-2 and looked certain to secure their maiden victory, but a Dyron Daal hand ball in the box well into injury time allowed Adelaide’s Lucas Pantelis to level from the penalty spot.
“I think we did deserved to come away victors,” Grossman said.
“We were probably the strongest team to go down there and put on a performance like that so we felt a little bit robbed,” he admitted.
“But this week we’re at home so we should put in another good performance and hopefully we can correct the wrongs that happened down in Adelaide.”
Ferguson has included Grossman in his squad to take on Adelaide while youngster Osama Malik has re-entered calculations to make his debut.
Fred Agius has again been overlooked but experience midfielder Ufuk Talay is a possibility of making his return after sitting out last week with a hamstring strain.
