Tonight’s Hyundai A-League match between Brisbane Roar and Melbourne City FC will mark a milestone for Referee Peter Green as he becomes the competition’s most capped whistle blower.
Green’s 162nd Hyundai A-League appointment will see him pass his former colleague Ben Williams’s record of 161 matches.
Speaking ahead of the match Green said he was honoured to be involved in Australian football at the highest level.
“I am especially proud and grateful to have been involved in the Hyundai A-League since its inaugural season. The game is growing at such an extraordinary rate and it is really exciting to be involved.”
A foundation referee, Green made his debut on the Round 7 match between Melbourne Victory and the New Zealand Knights. Since that match Green has become one of the competitions most respected referees.
“There have been so many highlights over the seasons but refereeing the Hyundai A-League Grand Finals in 2012 and 2013 were certainly special moments,” concluded Green.
FFA Director of Referees Ben Wilson spoke positively about Green’s contribution to the Hyundai A-League.
“Peter has been one of the Hyundai A-League’s most consistent and top performing referees for a number of seasons and his domestic and international experience is invaluable.”
