Grand Final History

This decider may well go against tradition and create some new records.

Over the years of the Australian National League, National Soccer League and Hyundai A-League, some epic grand finals have been played, but what does history tell us?

We bring you the definitive list of all the stats that matter, here comes the breakdown.

29 The total number of grand finals played which includes the two-legged grand finals that took place in 1984, 1985 and 1986

67 The total number of goals scored in all grand finals, which averages out at 2.3 goals per game.

Matches between Brisbane Roar and Perth Glory this season have averaged 4.3 goals per game, expect the total number of goals to crack 70 this weekend.

6 The highest number of goals in a grand final. Melbourne Victory did it in 2007 against Adelaide, while Perth were involved back in 2000 against Wollongong Wolves, when the teams had a 3-3 draw.

Ironically the game that got Perth-s season going this time around was a 3-3 draw with the Roar back in Week 13.

Six is also the highest winning margin, which came when Victory thumping Adelaide in 2007.

11 The most grand final goals by any club is held by South Melbourne. Perth have scored six goals in grand finals while the Roar have netted just two in their one appearance thus far.

4 The most grand final victories by a club is held by South Melbourne. Perth are aiming for their third while the Roar are looking for their second.

3 The most grand final victories as a coach, held by Zoran Matic and Ange Postecoglou, Postecoglou can go top on his own this weekend.

7 The most grand final appearances by any player, Damian Mori and Tom Pondeljak hold the record. This weekend Michael Theoklitos plays his fourth.

4 The most grand final victories by any player. Clint Bolton, David Cervinski, Fausto De Amicis and Pondeljak, share the record, Theoklitos can join them with a win.

5 The most goals by a single player in a grand final, held by Archie Thompson in that 2007 slaughter.

16 The age of the youngest grand final player: 16y 293d, Jason Culina (for Sydney United L0-2 v Brisbane Strikers 1997

37 The age of the oldest grand final player: 37y 235d, Tony Vidmar (for Central Coast Mariners L0-1 v Newcastle Jets 2008)

17 The age of the youngest grand final winner: 17y 51d, Ufuk Talay (for Marconi W1-0 v Adelaide City 1993)
