The Western Sydney Wanderers have added to their AFC Champions League squad depth by signing defender Antony Golec on a short-term contract.
The Western Sydney Wanderers have added to their squad depth leading into the AFC Champions League completing the signing of defender Antony Golec on a short-term contract.
Golec, 23, signed with the Western Sydney Wanderers for the duration of their AFC Champions League group stage and potential Round of 16 matches.
With experience in Asia and several national team caps under his belt, Golec is a sturdy defender who will add another dimension to the Wanderers back line throughout the competition.
“I have experience playing matches in the AFC Champions League for Adelaide and I bring youth, pace and enthusiasm to the defensive line,” explained Golec.
“I want to go out there and enjoy playing – hopefully that will rub off on the other boys so we can keep winning and do well in the Champions League.
“I understand Beauchamp, Topor-Stanley and Spiranovic have done well but I didn-t come here to sit back and watch; I came here to play.
“I know Tony Popovic well, I know what he can do for me and where he-s been in his career and I-d love to follow in his footsteps. He-s one of the few players I looked up to when I was younger and to play under him and to improve is why I came.
“My goal here is to become a success and I want to do that here in my home town. I-ve got the best coach and great players around me to do it.
“The Wanderers are the best club in Australia so there-s nothing to stop me. I-m really looking forward to it; it-s going to be a great journey and hopefully it will last longer than just the ACL.”
In similar circumstances to the signing of Daniel Mullen and Golgol Mebrahtu, Golec will be unavailable to play for the Club throughout the remainder of the Hyundai A-league season but is keen to get back on the pitch against Western Sydney-s ACL opponents commencing on 26 February when the Wanderers take on Ulsan Hyundai at Parramatta Stadium.
Tickets for the Wanderers 2014 AFC Champions League campaign are currently on sale with ACL 3 Match Passes starting from $98 for a family of four.
