Gold Coast United has signed up its first major sponsor ahead of its inaugural foray into the Hyundai A-League later this year.

The new franchise has secured WAECO, a portable refrigeration manufacturer, for two seasons with an option of extending the deal until 2013.

WAECO’s logo will appear on the front and back of Gold Coast’s strip, team shorts and its National Youth League strip.

WAECO had previously sponsored the Queensland Roar for three years.

Gold Coast United chief executive Clive Mensink was pleased not only to have locked the deal away but congratulated the company for continuing its support of Australian football.

“We are delighted to have WAECO on board with us. They have a history of commitment to football and are a strong international brand with local roots here on the Gold Coast,” he said.

“We are looking forward to a long, mutually beneficial relationship with WAECO and congratulate them on their vision in recognising the opportunities presented by football, especially in these tough economic times.”

“Football’s profile will continue to grow in Australia, particularly with the Socceroos’ qualification for the 2010 FIFA World Cup just around the corner. Gold Coast United will be part of that growth and WAECO’s confidence in the bright future of the code is to be admired.”
