Canberra United star goalscorer Michelle Heyman found her scoring touch for the new season with a double against Newcastle Jets to get off the mark in the current campaign.
Heyman’s record in the Westfield W-League is quite simply incomparable. The Wollongong-born forward is comfortably the league’s greatest goalscorer, and her tally of 57 is currently well clear of nearest challenger, Tameka Butt (43).
Heyman, along with Kate Gill, is the only player to win the league’s golden boot on two occasions. She has owns the record for the most goals in a single season – 15 in Canberra United’s famous 2011/12 championship winning campaign.
Fourteen goals were scored in the four weekend matches, following a slow start to the season in that regard. In addition to Heyman, Melbourne City’s Jess Fishlock was another to score a brace on the weekend, while Newcastle Jets’ American striker Jen Hoy hit her second of the campaign as did Sydney FC rookie Remy Siemsen.
