Perth Glory can confirm that is has agreed terms with Lithuanian International striker Davydas Sernas to join the Club for the remainder of the 2013-14 Hyundai A-League season.
The 1.80m tall striker, who was playing at Turkish Süper Lig team Gaziantepspor has agreed to join Perth Glory on a loan for the rest of season with an option for a permanent move for the 2014-15 Hyundai A-League season.
At 29 years of age, Sernas is considered to be at his prime. The pacey striker can play in a variety of attacking positions, is adept at shooting with either foot and renowned for being very direct and hard working.
Perth Glory Interim Head Coach, Kenny Lowe, said Sernas’s signing would greatly strengthen Glory’s attacking third.
“Davydas Sernas is a proven goal scorer who can play anywhere up front. His all-action style of play should suit the Hyundai A-League and will quickly make him a fans’ favourite,” Lowe said.
The international striker has played 35 times for his country and scored five goals, including goals against Spain and the Czech Republic during Lithuania’s UEFA Euro 2012 qualifying campaign.
Sernas-s career has seen him score 69 goals for a variety of Eastern European clubs in Lithuania, Russia, Poland and Turkey.
His most prolific spell saw him score 30 goals in 68 games while playing for Widzew Lodz in Poland’s top division.
Sernas passed his medical today after arriving in Perth last night. He will join the rest of his Perth Glory team mates for his first training session tomorrow, and will be available for selection for the Glory-s next home game versus the Melbourne Victory at nib stadium on the 31st of January.
