Glory star Keogh: ‘we deserved the win’

Perth Glory striker Andy Keogh has called for more consistency but says his team deserved their 2-1 win over Wellington Phoenix on Thursday night.

In a feisty and entertaining clash to kick off Round 14, Glory came from a goal down to keep pressure on the top four with a 2-1 – their first three points since Round 7.

Glory reignite top four hopes with win over Wellington

After a couple of draws over the festive Summer of Football period, it was a welcome return to the winner’s circle, said Keogh.

And he is hoping for a strong second half of the season to cement Glory’s Finals Series hopes, just as they did last season.

Glory striker Adam Taggart celebrates scoring what proved to be the winner against Wellington at nib Stadium.

“We’ve got the players, we just need a bit more consistency, a bit more of a settled back four and we go from there,” he told Fox Sports.

“We had a little more composure on the ball [tonight] and played the simple passes.

“And we deserved the victory,” he said.

Glory are in fifth spot on 17 points after the win, three points ahead of Wanderers who face City in Melbourne tonight (Fri).

Perth Glory coach Kenny Lowe echoed his star striker’s comments and is relishing having the likes of Taggart, Castro and Keogh in form.

“We were the dominant force in the second half. I thought we deserved it in the end. By far.

“Any side wants the good players on the pitch, fit and firing, and at the moment we have those guys,” Lowe said.

Perth have some time to rest after a busy festive schedule and next play on Sunday Jan 15 away to Newcastle Jets.
