Glory sets new membership record

Perth Glory FC has recorded its highest number of members in its Hyundai A-League history, surpassing last season’s high of 6298.

Today the club reached a new milestone of 6331 members and is expected to close in on 6500 by the end of the week.

The news comes on the back of a three game unbeaten run, including a thrilling 3-2 win over Hyundai A-League champions Melbourne Victory, which boasted this season’s highest home crowd of 10,501.

“It was fantastic to see such a strong crowd at the weekend and even more encouraging having set a new benchmark for club membership,” said Captain Richard Garcia.

“I think we are slowly reaching out to football supporters, spreading our message that we are a club with purpose” Garcia said.

Club CEO Peter Filopoulos said everyone at the club was working around the clock to make Perth Glory a leading and successful Hyundai A-League club.

“The most pleasing aspect of all this, is that we are one of only four clubs to have boosted its membership this season. That tells us we are doing a lot of things right,” he said.

“However a lot more work still needs to be done to reach our goal of 10-thousand members as part of our four year strategic plan” he added.

With five new player signings during the January transfer window, including the return of home-grown Socceroos Adam Taggart and Shane Lowry the rewards are slowly paying dividends.

Spanish marquee Diego Castro has been hailed as one of the league’s best, scoring nine goals and is a contender for the January player of the month.

“It’s great to see more and more supporters have jumped on board and we thank them for believing in us. It’s now up to us to make sure we avoid disappointing them” said Coach Kenny Lowe.
