Glory midfielder Neil Kilkenny admitted he was out to prove a point against his old club Melbourne City in Saturday night’s thriller at nib Stadium.
Kilkenny, facing his old side for the first time, scored a late equaliser to help kick-start Perth’s remarkable come-from-behind 2-1 win in the West.
Adam Taggart netted in the 97th minute to seal a memorable victory for Kenny Lowe’s side.
And for Kilkenny, who joined Glory in January, the win was particularly sweet.
The midfielder was City’s player of the season in 2016/17 but fell out of favour under new coach Warren Joyce this campaign, making just three appearances.
“Football’s about opinions, you know and I played like that every day in training and the man ignored me so I had something to prove tonight and hopefully I did that,” Kilkenny told Fox Sports post-match.
“Not between the club and me (no hard feelings), no, obviously not.
“The club’s a fantastic club, I’ve always said that. The players are brilliant as well — a fantastic set of lads.
“Like I said, it was one person’s opinion that didn’t like me, so it was one of those things like I said, I didn’t get the opportunity that I felt I deserved but it’s one of those things and I’m glad that we won tonight.”
The win leaves Glory four points behind sixth-placed Wanderers – who have a game in hand – ahead of next week’s clash with Josep Gombau’s side at Spotless Stadium.
